On March 1st, the house of Iranian filmmaker Jafar Panahi (CRIMSON GOLD, OFFSIDE) was stormed by Security Forces of the Iranian government, arresting Panahi, his wife and daughter, and 15 of his dinner guests. A long time and vocal supporter of Iranian opposition leader Mir Hossein Mousavi, Panahi has long been regarded as a pariah by the ruling government. Panahi is currently being held in an undisclosed location, and his travel plans to last month’s Berlin Film Festival were cancelled due to an unexplained “travel ban”.
Our thoughts are with Panahi and his friends and family during this difficult time.
